The final two regular season home games for the Wilmington Sharks will take place this evening (Aug. 1) at Buck Hardee Field as the Sharks play a doubleheader against the Columbia Blowfish on Fan Appreciation and Perry's Diamond Dig Night. Fans who attend the ball game will receive a 2010 Wilmington Sharks commemorative team photograph and can stick around after the game to get the photo autographed by their favorite Sharks players. In addition, it's Perry's Diamond Dig where the winners of the 1/4-karat diamonds throughout the summer will be on hand to try to win a full-karat diamond buried somewhere in the infield at Buck Hardee Field.
Last night's game between the Sharks and Blowfish in Columbia was postponed due to rain and will be finished as game one of the doubleheader this evening. It will resume at 5:05 p.m. with the score tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning with Columbia as the designated home team and Wilmington as the away team. That game will go a full nine innings. The regularly-scheduled game will start 30 minutes after the first game ends with the Sharks as the home team and the Blowfish as the away team and will go seven innings. The games have playoff implications for the Sharks. With Asheboro’s win over Martinsville last night, the Sharks are now half-a-game back. Columbia is also close by, being two games back. A win in either game today by the Sharks eliminates the Blowfish. Possible playoff scenarios are reliant on how Asheboro does in their season finale today against Fayetteville, but what is known is that the Sharks have to win at least two of their final four games to stay alive. |
