MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- A Matt Ciraco sacrifice fly scored Chris Taylor from third in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Morehead City Marlins a 4-3 walk-off win over the Wilmington Sharks in game one of a doubleheader Monday night. The win clinched at least the three-seed in the Petitt Cup Playoffs for the Marlins and put the Sharks one loss away from elimination.

The scoring started in the first for the Sharks when Joey Rapp's sacrifice fly scored Alex Hill from third. Kenny Bryant's groundout then scored Aaron Miller to make it 2-0.

Morehead City got one back in the bottom half of the inning when Joe Sclafani's single to center scored Justyn Carter to make it 2-1.

Lightning struck again for the Sharks in the third when Rapp's sacrifice fly scored Hill from third again to make it 3-1.

After that, both pitchers seemed to settle in.  Sharks starter Matt Talley went six-plus innings, allowing three hits, three runs and  four strikeouts.  Ben Klimesh went 6.2 innings and allowed three hits, three runs and seven strike outs.

The Marlins got another one back in the sixth when Luke Smierciak's sacrifice fly scored Carter from third.

In the seventh, it all fell apart for the Sharks. Corey Carver (L, 1-3) came in for Talley after Zach Borenstein singled to second base. After Chris Schaeffer struck out, Taylor singled to left field, advancing Borenstein to second. Preston Shuey's shot down the left-field line scored Borenstein to tie the game at three. That set the stage for Ciraco's sacrifice fly to end the game. Jeff Guthridge (W, 4-1) got the win having retired one batter in the top of the seventh.

The Sharks and Marlins will tussle again at 8:55 p.m. from Puck O'Neil field at Big Rock Stadium with the Sharks season hanging in the balance. With a win, they would force the conclusion of the July 17 game versus Outer Banks to be played at Buck Hardee Field at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3. If the Sharks lose, their season is over and Asheboro goes to the playoffs.
