The Sharks won their first game in extra innings Saturday night in Florence, with a 3-2 victory over the RedWolves.  Wilmington plated a run in the top of the 11th to take a 2-1 lead but a two-out error by Sharks left fielder Matt Willis tied the game at two before the Sharks put one more run across in the 12th and held on to win behind Atlee Pearson, who pitched a perfect 12th for his first save of the season.

The RedWolves got on the board first when leadoff man Corey Tilton reached base with two outs after a Kenny Bryant error.  Tilton stole second and, following a walk to Herman Petzold, stole third.  Tilton then took home with a steal when Petzold stole second off Sharks starter Joe Wagstaff.

But that unearned run was the only one Wagstaff would allow.  He went eight innings and allowed just three hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Sharks would even up the score in the next frame when Kenny Bryant scored Aaron Miller with a two-out RBI single.

Florence then got shutdown pitching from starter Tyler Cappelman (7IP, 5H, 1ER, 2BB, 4SO) and reliever Kit Carter to prevent Wilmington from scoring again in regulation.  No team threatened until Florence loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth against Wilmington reliever Justin Bradley.  Bradley was relieved by Patrick Mincey who struck out RedWolves left fielder Mac Doyle and then retired Ethan Santora by fly out and Austin Smetana by foul out to send the game to extra innings.

After a quiet tenth, Wilmington took the lead in the 11th.  Aaron Miller drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a Tim Taylor bunt single.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch by Patrick Dolan.  After a Jesse Bosnik pop out, Miller scored on another wild pitch, though Taylor, who advanced to third, was stranded when Yogi Gunther struck out to end the inning.

Mincey was solid in relief for the Sharks, going three innings and allowing three hits and the unearned run in the 11th.  But Wilmington handed the ball to Pearson after taking the lead in the 12th.  He shut down the Wolves in order, ending the game by striking out Corey Tilton.

Wilmington has now won two out of three (three out of four including their non-league win over Catawba Valley June 4).  At 3-4 they are still in last place in the CPL South division but only a game and a half behind Florence, who dropped to 5-5 with the loss.

After a day off Sunday, the Sharks travel to Florence again for a rematch with the RedWolves.  Game time is 7:30 p.m.
