Sometimes great ideas come out of thin air. Sometimes an unusual event sparks them. Other times a keen observer points out something so obvious that a writer can do nothing but put pen to paper.

Such was the case a few minutes ago in the press box at Wilson, North Carolina.

Until the Sharks just picked up a run in the top of the 6th, the real highlight of the night had been the Carolina BBQ downed by this author just minutes ago.

Up until last year, during my first tour around the Coastal Plain League, the only BBQ I had known came chopped and swimming in rich tomato based sauce. On my first trip to Wilson in 2008, I was informed by the press box triumvirate here that the BBQ in the Carolinas was far different...and better.

All I can say is, if you're ever in Wilson and someone offers you some BBQ, run, don't walk, to wherever they tell you to get it. Vinegar based pork, with a subtle kick from the slaw on the side, could be one of the most distinct and finest tastes a west coast tomato based boy such as myself ever experienced.

The Sharks have a runner on second and one down, so I should get back to the game, but just note, if you ever head to Fleming Stadium sometime down the line, knock on the press box door and have Alton, Jimmy or Dale point you in the direction of some of the best BBQ you'll ever have.
