It's been said that in baseball everything is counted. This is true. Number of hits, number of innings, number of strike outs and of course the almighty number of runs. Though in a game where success is often defined by achieving less failure, the numbers can be extremely disheartening. So in this game of constant accounting, why don’t we take a look at some of the more lighthearted numbers involved in Sharks baseball? For instance the official mileage one way on the trip to Columbia, South Carolina today, checks in at 208. While the bus that brought us here, part of the "Leap of Faith" fleet, is number 378. Head Coach Jake Tenhouse made the trip sitting in seat number 2 while a few rows back pitchers Max Friedman and Sean Toler sat in seats 11 and 12 while watching the film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. To be technical Toler sat on the ball bucket in the aisle, but it was next to seat 12. There are at least 5 things named after "Pedro" at the "South of the Border" entertainment and shopping smorgasbord situated, you guessed it, just south of the border of North and South Carolina. The aforementioned number 378 bus took exit 274A off of Highway 74 to merge on to the 95 headed to Columbia. While exit 13A off of 95 spins you right back around towards home. There are 787 pages in the biography of Napoleon Bonaparte that takes up most of seat number 6 on the bus. That doesn't include the epilogue because Alex Hill says all that doesn't count. And finally, the Sharks crossed the Great Pee Dee River only 1 time on their latest journey to the land of the Blowfish. Its baseball, we count everything.
