It might not feel like it, but the first half of the 2010 Coastal Plain League season is rapidly coming to a close. In Major League Baseball, this would be the time players look forward to the All-Star Game. However, in the CPL, many teams, including the Wilmington Sharks, are in the midst of a playoff race.
The CPL playoff system is a tale of two halves. The three division leaders and the best second-place team after Monday, June 28 automatically qualify for the CPL Petitt Cup playoffs in August. They will be joined by the three divisional leaders and a wild card team from the second half of the season. If a team that has already qualified for the playoffs from the first half wins their division or is the wild card team, the next best team qualifies.

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.---The Wilmington Sharks lost their second straight, dropping an 11-2 contest to the Morehead City Marlins at Buck O'Neal Field Monday night. The Marlins pounced on Sharks starter Buck Mosteller (1-3) early, scoring three runs each in the bottom of the second and third. Wilmington would get on the board in the fourth but it was the second straight night of little offense for the Sharks, who had just four hits.
