A complete game from starter J.C. Casey(Missouri State) and 15 hits for the Sharks turned into a 7-1 win for the Sharks over the Columbia Blowfish Friday night.
It was the Sharks bats getting started early with two runs in the first. Singles from Ben Kline(Nebraska), Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) and Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) loaded the bases. With two down Greg Bachman(Austin Peay) notched his first of two RBI on the night by working a walk. Adam Gray(Mercyhurst) would then get his big night started with his first of three singles, to drive in the first of his three runs and give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
While Wilmington would add one in the third, two in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh, two would prove to be enough as Casey cruised through nine.
The Missouri State righty spread three hits and five strike outs over his nine innings. An error opened the door to the end of the shut out in the seventh, but Casey secured the last six outs to pick up his first win of the season.

Though they scored late to draw close, the Sharks came up short in their 2009 season finale, 5-3 to the Columbia Blowfish.
The game, a continuation of a rain suspended game on July 13th, started in the second with no score. Hunter Ford(Campbell) took the hill today but allowed a four runs on five hits through his four frames of work to take the loss and move to 0-2 on the season.
At the plate the Sharks battled back when Adam Gray(Mercyhurst) doubled in a run in the eighth. Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) chipped in a 2-4 night as did Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington). The Sharks final record in 2009 stands at 19-36.

A stellar start from Daniel Cropper(UNC-Wilmington) and a five run third inning was enough to put the Sharks back in the win column as they beat Wilson 7-4.
Cropper allowed just one run and scattered four hits over seven innings of work racking up six strike outs. He bested his last outing by two innings as he picked up his first win of 2009.
The Sharks picked up a single run in the second but did major damage with the lumber in the third. Cole Rakar(College of Charleston) singled to start the inning. After Ben Kline(Nebraska) reached on a fielders choice, Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) doubled home a run. With Kline and Eggemeyer at second and third Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) rolled one past the center fielder to plate two more and the route was on.

The Wilmington Sharks and Food Lion have joined forces with The Food Bank of Wilmington to host the “2nd Annual Sharky’s Pumpkin Patch”.
The event will be a food drive that offers the public a chance to donate nonperishable food items to needy families and an opportunity to meet Sharky and receive a pumpkin for the holiday season. This year’s drive will be held Saturday, October 29th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Legion Sports Complex, located at 2149 Carolina Beach Road.
“Families and their children can receive a free pumpkin when they bring four canned goods or nonperishable food items to the event,” said Andrew Aguilar, general manager of the Sharks. “It’s a fun event and for a very worthy cause as all proceeds will go to the Food Bank of Wilmington for their busy holiday season.”
Sharks mascot Sharky will be on-hand to make sure you receive “the pick of the patch”. The Wilmington Fire Department will also be present with fire engines to greet the children. Representatives of the Sharks and the Food Bank will be on hand to collect the donated food and help Sharky pass out pumpkins. Cash donations will also be accepted.
The Sharks would like to thank Food Lion and the Wilmington Fire Departments for their help and support with this event.
The Food Bank of Wilmington is a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger in the area. The Food Bank distributes food and grocery products to needy families through a network of approved charitable agencies.
