After leading for most of the game the Wilmington Sharks were had to score two runs in the eighth inning to beat the visiting Columbia Blowfish 6-4.
The opening night crowd at the Shark Tank was treated to quite a show Thursday night. Wilmington found themselves in a suddenly tight ballgame after leading 4-0 all night until a Blowfish rally in the eighth tied things up.
Facing their first bit of adversity of the season the Sharks responded as Alex Hill(UNC-Wilmington) led off with a single and then was sacrificed to second by Cole Rakar(College of Charleston) As Hill tried to swipe third, the catcher’s throw sailed into left field, allowing Hill to score the tie-breaking run.

Stellar pitching and just enough hitting helped the Wilmington Sharks spoil the home opener of the Thomasville Hi-Toms with a 4-2 win Wednesday night.
The right arm of Adam Schrader(SW Minnesota State) held the Hi-Toms in check at Finch Field. Carrying a no hitter into the 5th Schrader needed just over 80 pitches to complete seven innings. Schrader allowed just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out six.
The Sharks offense pounded out ten hits against the Hi-Toms but only had one run to their credit headed into the 7th. That changed after Adam Gray(Mercyhurst) led off the inning with a single, he would come home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Sharks. With two down Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) would strike out but reach base as the ball went past the catcher. After Andrew Guerra(St. Louis) doubled Bosnik to third a sharp single back up the middle off the bat of Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) would bring home two and put the Sharks up 4-0.

If a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, then for the Sharks a journey through the 2009 Coastal Plain Season begins with a trip to Thomasville, North Carolina.
The Hi-Tom’s Finch Field will be site of the only meeting between these two clubs this season. Last year the Sharks and Hi-Toms split a home and home set with each club defending their home field.
With a total of five Coastal Plain League Championships between the two franchises, the match-up didn’t lack for excitement in 2008. The Sharks got a ninth inning run to steal a 2-1 win at the “Shark Tank” on June 21st while the Hi-Toms walked off with a win in 11 innings on July 11th.

It’s an old saying, “For a time that’s jolly, just ride the trolley!” So maybe no one says that yet, but after a season of free trolley service between Front Street Brewery and the “Shark Tank” every Thursday home game, it may be the latest catch phrase.
The Sharks are teaming up with the Wilmington Trolley Company to provide a free way to get to the park and back. All you have to do is drive, walk, run, whatever, to Front Street Brewery before any Shark’s Thirsty Thursday home game, hop a trolley anytime after 6pm, then catch the same trolley back to the brewery after cheering the Sharks to a win.
As an added bonus the trolley will put you the fan right back in the middle of the action. After each Thursday home game Front Street Brewery will host a post game party where you can meet Sharks coaches and staff and get to know everyone behind the scenes here at the “Shark Tank.”
The first chance to take advantage of this great transportation option is coming up Thursday night May 28th. It’s the Shark’s home opener against the Columbia Blowfish starting at 7 p.m. The trolley will roll between Front Street Brewery and the park all night starting at 6 pm. While at the game enjoy $1 beer and $1 soft drinks. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Sharks magnet schedule presented by Project Assist and QuitlineNC.com.
