After a near miss in come from behind fashion last night, the Sharks will try again to find their first win of the second half as the Florence Redwolves come to town, bringing a 1-0 second half advantage into tonight's contest.
J.C. Casey will be on the hill for the Sharks. Making his 6th start Casey brings a 2-2 record along with a 2.60 ERA into the game tonight. The Missouri State right hander is staring back at a two game personal losing streak but threw eight innings of one hit ball the last time he faced these Redwolves.

The fresh start of the second half has come and gone, but its still early in the late part of the season.
Early or late Sharks starters have produced all season long, but offensively some outs of the double variety have proved to hamper the Sharks efforts.

Three runs in the ninth sent the game to extras Tuesday night but the Sharks could go no further as they fell 5-3 in eleven to the Columbia Blowfish.
Trailing 3-1 in the ninth the Sharks got a lead walk from Michael Rooney(UNC-Wilmington), a double from Adam Eggemeyer(SIU-Edwardsville) and an RBI single from Jesse Bosnik(St. Bonaventure) to pull to within one. A double play ground ball brought the tying run home but squashed any further rally.
Ryne Harper(Austin Peay) gave up just an earned run as he struck out eight through seven strong innings. Ryan McGrath(Wake Forest) gave up two runs in the 11th to pick up the loss and send the Sharks to an 0-1 second half start.

June the 30th is a date chock full of significance. It was on this day in 1859 that a French acrobat crossed Niagara Falls on a tight rope. Same day, different century, Cy Young throws his third career no hit game on a warm day in 1908. In 1936 the epic novel Gone With the Wind is published for the first time. In 1971, the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18 on this very date.
Now some 38 years later, with the eyes of history watching, the Wilmington Sharks will launch the second half of the 2009 CPL season. With the ups and downs of the first half behind them, the Sharks will have new life for the next 28 games and another shot at a division crown.
